Building a Scalable Fuel Data Ecosystem to Power Enterprise-Wide Analytics for Delta

Building a Scalable Fuel Data Ecosystem to Power Enterprise-Wide Analytics for Delta

Situation

Delta’s fuel teams had strong data foundations, but like many enterprise environments, growing complexity and limited engineering capacity made it difficult to scale. With multiple systems in use and no centralized governance, teams sometimes faced duplication of effort, inconsistent outputs, and limited access to high-quality, reliable insights.

To build on that foundation and unlock greater impact, the OCC team partnered with Thought Logic to design a more unified, future-ready fuel data ecosystem. The goal was to establish a centralized repository as the trusted source for fuel data, automate data pipelines to streamline collection, processing, and integration, deliver actionable insights to enable faster and smarter decisions, and design a scalable architecture to satisfy evolving operational and analytical needs.

Our Solution

To help Delta scale its fuel data capabilities, Thought Logic partnered with business and technical teams to modernize infrastructure, streamline ETL processes, and embed sustainable data quality practices. By aligning stakeholders, enhancing governance, and implementing scalable solutions, we empowered teams across the organization with trusted fuel data to support high-impact initiatives.

Our team began by working closely with business and technical leaders to align on data priorities, define strategic targets, and establish governance recommendations for enduring sustainability. We mapped existing data sources and systems, identified gaps, and developed an Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) to inform integration and data modeling decisions. From there, we built and tested a robust ETL process using AWS Glue, designed a sandbox schema for development, and deployed the solution using AWS CDK — completing the implementation with scheduled model runs and GitLab version control to guarantee long-term maintainability.
